Real estate professionals have scheduled at least 31,078 open houses this weekend with a total listing price of $14.3 billion in conjunction with Realtors Nationwide Open House Weekend, according to data from Realtor.com.

Open houses have gained a lot of attention recently regarding their effectiveness and purpose. In our current market where 98% (Inman) of agents advertise on line and with social media...what is the purpose of a "traditional" and old fashioned form of promotion?
What most agents are using open houses for now is to network mostly, according to Inman. Rather than relying on the open house to bring a sale, the agent can create a buzz about a certain neighborhood and find future buyer prospects.
Open houses still have a strong place in the real estate industry because of the tradition they bring. In a society where everything is advertised and sold on line, its nice to be able to make your home buying or selling process a little more intimate and "real".

For many, the thought of using Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest can be an overwhelming thought. Learning how to navigate that social ocean can be complicated, not to mention the questions of whether or not it’s worthwhile. As many real estate agencies turn to social media for communication purposes, consumers have a lot they could be using to help with the home buying process.
1: Phone Applications: We have a phone application that can be used to search for homes in a certain geographical area that works off of the GPS in your phone. This application eliminates that extra step of trying to search for homes in that “perfect” neighborhood you saw while driving around on a Saturday afternoon. You can pull up our houses for sale in that neighborhood in real time as you drive instead of having to search for them when you get home. Download our app Here!
2. Facebook & Twitter: Social media websites have opened up an entirely new form of communication between consumers and businesses, especially in the Real Estate industry. With Twitter and Facebook, agencies are able to maintain a more personal relationship with their audiences. As a homebuyer, your real estate agencies social networks are another outlet for you to stay connected with their most recent information. Whether you follow an individual agent or the agency itself, you can look to their Facebook or Twitter to provide you with information regarding the real estate market and homes for sale.
3. Pinterest: Last but not least, the new social media website that has been creating a lot of stir, Pinterest. For those of you who don’t know what that is, don’t worry. It’s not another confusing website where you have to learn a new lingo. It’s an online bulletin board where you can post pictures of things you like; quite possibly the easiest social media site to navigate. Most people “pin” images of recipes, homes and places they want to travel to. This relates to real estate because a lot of agencies are creating Pinterest boards as well as agents. Unlike Facebook or Twitter, Pinterest is a more personal website. You shouldn’t expect to see a lot of advertising and information being shoved in your face. What you can expect to see is the personality and spirit of the real estate agency and agents. We use our Pinterest to showcase news for the communities we work in, real estate news and home decorating ideas. If you want to use Pinterest to help you with your buying process, you could set up a bulletin board with photos of homes and rooms that you like. This could be another way for your agent to see your personal style and find homes that better suit you.
Regardless of what social media sites you choose to conquer during your home buying experience, there is a lot to be offered and we highly recommend using these great new resources that are right at your fingertips.

Everyone loves spring … warmer weather and the beautiful Dogwood trees start to bloom, but another reason is the community festivals and events. For years we have welcomed the changing seasons with festivals and celebrations. But none can be as anticipated as the spring festivals.
We might be a little biased, but we think that North Carolina has some of the best spring festivals to offer. Ranging from every tip of our beautiful state, you would be hard pressed not to find at least one festival that caught your fancy. Some of our favorites are MerleFest in Wilkesboro and the BBQ Capital Cook Off in Lexington.
MerleFest began in 1988 in memory of Eddy Merle Watson, and has grown into one of the most well-known Folk and Blue Grass festivals of the Southeast. This four day event features over 60 musical acts and offers workshops, nature walks and countless activities provided by the vendors. If you’re looking to get back to the “roots” of North Carolina and experience the beauty of the foothills, this is your best bet.
Known for their BBQ in Lexington, it only seems natural that they would host a BBQ Cook- Off. If you haven’t graced yourself with a trip to this timeless small town yet, now is your chance. With competitors from around the country showcasing their slow cooking styles, beer and wine tastings, live music and a corn hole throw down…who could resist? This two day event is sure to give you a fun filled weekend.
Whether you are a North Carolina native or just relocated, there are plenty of opportunities for you to celebrate the start of a beautiful season and the wonderful culture of our state. Which festival are you going to kick your spring off with?

Starting in 2009, we started working with local food banks throughout North Carolina to help raise money and food for the thousands of families that go without meals every day. Starting April 2, we began one of our annual food drives to benefit three local Food Banks. All of the Prudential Carolinas Realty, Prudential York Simpson Underwood Realty and Prudential Yost & Little Realty offices will be collection locations.
“Last year our October Food Drive was a huge success – we raised over $3,200 and 6,000 pounds of food,” said Tommy Camp, President and CEO. “Our sales associates demonstrated their tremendous connection with the communities in which they serve by helping to make these significant contributions. Because of the great success of our food drive, and most importantly because of the increased need due to a depleting supply of food in the food banks, this year we are expanding our efforts with the intent of making an even greater impact.”
The three food banks that we work with are Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina , The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Located in the Triad, Triangle and greater Charlotte area respectively, these organizations work to bring meals to families in need throughout the state.
We are excited to kick off another Food Drive and expect to create just as great a success as the years past! If you are interested in helping our cause, here is how you can help: Click Here!
